It is always shocking to see how humans treat "farm" animals. So I am all the more pleased to receive an update today that the rescue operation I co-financed was a success.

Well, successful, that's a difficult word. There are 18 sponsors like me who take over the care of a livestock for life. Eight are still missing. Some cows could already be pregnant. Then even more sponsorships will be needed. The goats may well be taken care of. One cow was already lying dead in faecal sludge. Three pigs that I would have loved to sponsor - because I think pigs are so great - were forcibly euthanised. They were not allowed to leave the farm for epidemiological reasons. And the farmer? He no longer needs a farm. He will receive a lifelong ban on keeping animals as well as other penalties.

Geglückt is an expression whose interpretation leaves a lot of room for manoeuvre and yet depends very much on the point of view of the observer. For me, this is reason enough to stand up for the animals. A drop in the ocean? No, I see it differently. It means EVERYTHING to the rescued animals.

On YouTube there are some impressions of the rescue, the transport and the first hours of the animals in the safe harbour of Delicia Natural.

A drop in the ocean?
