Forests must be viewed as an economic factor, their ecosystem services recognised and incorporated into GDP. A nice idea, but unfortunately only 5 billion has been raised, which I find somewhat indicative of international climate protection efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It's no use, I still have to <strong>comment <\/strong>get rid of. And it doesn't help, my comment just became too much for in between. The official name of the event is COP, short for Conference of the Parties, i.e. the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention.\u201c<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201eThe first climate conferences focused on industrialised countries. Most of them committed themselves to reducing their CO\u2082 emissions for the first time in 1997 in the Kyoto Protocol.\u201c<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201eThere was a breakthrough in Paris in 2015. Industrialised nations as well as developing and emerging countries agreed that the global temperature rise should be limited to 1.5\u00b0 Celsius if possible, but in any case well below 2\u00b0 compared to the pre-industrial age.\u201c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At the conference itself:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heesch defends the venue. You can get on a boat here and in half an hour you're in the rainforest, where you can see for yourself the extent of the destruction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Personal comment: How many of the 50,000 participants went to see the deforested rainforest like our Chancellor did? None. Our Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his entourage flew home after less than 24 hours.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The courtrooms were filled with extreme tension.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The process collapsed several times because countries could not agree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saudi Arabia, Russia, Venezuela and other OPEC countries consistently blocked any progress on the issue of fossil fuels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Countries such as Colombia, Fiji and other vulnerable nations (island states) fought desperately for stronger measures \u2013 but failed against the blockade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Emotional dimension:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Christian Siewers (presenter of \u201eheute Journal\u201c) begins by drawing a direct link to reality and recalls the extreme storm in Valencia, which caused unimaginable damage and several hundred deaths.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And Christian reminds us of \u201ethe South Sea islands that are sinking\u201c.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Host Helene Reiner paints a picture of melting Alps on the one hand and deforested Amazon rainforest on the other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heesch reports on the despair among the delegations from the Global South<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many delegates feel that their countries are literally drowning while the international community agrees on minimal compromises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A delegate from the Marshall Islands said: \u201eThis is not a final document. This is a death certificate.\u201c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Friedrich Merz:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heesch reports critically on Merz's performance. The damage he has caused is enormous.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was only there briefly and made strange comments about the venue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actually, nothing.
