Interview with Mark Benecke, running demo for Nuremberg's baboons with Colin Goldner from the Great Ape Project (GAP) in Wales, UK & parents as roving reporters under the spell of animal welfare - this weekend is all about animals.
This weekend is a tough one. It is probably the climax for the time being in the "baboon murder in Nuremberg" case. Vegan Network Nuremberg had invited people to a large walking demonstration and several hundred people accepted the invitation. Also Dr Mark Benecke @markito_benecke (criminal biologist and author) and Dr Colin Goldner (Great Ape Project), both of whom I greatly appreciate. Few people have contributed so much to nature and species conservation on this planet and have such in-depth expertise.
If you are not familiar with Mark's lecture series "Time is up!", I would definitely recommend it to you. All lectures are available on YouTube without a paywall, i.e. free of charge. Mark manages to let the figures and data speak for themselves and to present every topic, from the climate crisis to species conservation, in an exciting and fascinating way. Anyone who doesn't believe Mark's lectures probably also believes that the earth is a disc.
I recently commented on one of his lectures: Time was up
And speaking of talks, you can find the recording of Mark's interview talk at the demo in Nuremberg yesterday on his YouTube channel. You can find it here: Monkey killings at Nuremberg Zoo 🙊
Unfortunately I can't find a video of Colin's performance, but he plays a very important role in the baboon murder case in Nuremberg. The Great Ape Project (GAP) in Wales, under the direction of the renowned animal rights activist and primatologist Dr Colin Goldnerhas been campaigning for years for the liberation, admission and lifelong careful care of formerly captive great apes and other ape species1

Especially for "surplus" Guinea baboons, which no longer have any prospects in European zoos like Nuremberg, a real sanctuary like the GAP a particularly ethical and species-appropriate alternative. Because in a real sanctuary, the baboons would have virtually no human contact, would no longer be put on display and would simply be allowed to enjoy their twilight years as gracefully as possible in captivity.
And that is exactly what the zoo does not grant them. It sees the baboons as its property, which it needs to breed young animals that will attract public attention. Because a sanctuary naturally does not take part in breeding programmes, the zoo stonewalls like a small child whose toy is about to be taken away.
Dag Encke, the zoo director, says that he would rather shoot the animals than give them away without a breeding option.
Reason enough for us and a few hundred protesters to take to the streets. This weekend, we are my parents Patricia and Klaus, who have reliably passed my virtual self through prominent hands in the form of an iPad. If you're new to my channel, my ALS disease keeps me confined to my care bed. My multimedia version is about as mobile as it gets.

Dr Mark Benecke, Patrick, Colin
As always, my dear Sis supported me in the Post Pro, who, as always, knew nothing of her good fortune beforehand.
And because I wasn't actually there, I'll let those who were have their say. My dear parents.
Klaus: Our first success - Mark will probably not arrive until 3pm

Patricia: We're taking a break at the White Tower. Dad is busy filming and taking photos the whole time.

Dr Mark Benecke
Patricia: It started at 1.00 p.m. Mark was unexpectedly already at the church when we set off. There were lots of photos with him and Dad agreed to take photos of other participants with Mark and Colin. We set off at about 13.30. About 250 participants. The atmosphere was cheerful but still serious and loud. We are happy to be there.

Patricia: I gave Colin 3 of your cards, for him and Mark, and wrote Paddys.de on them. He wanted to get in touch. We'll try to speak to Mark again at the end❤❤❤👩💻🧑💻
Patrick: That's so sweet. What were the motifs?
Patricia: My favourite cards:

Patricia: Now we walk on😍
Klaus: Having been to a running demo for the first time, we are very impressed by all the participants. It was a new experience. The enthusiasm with which most of them took part was simply fantastic.
And your mum had no problems coping with the strenuous hours - also great Patsi❤
Patricia: We went to a demo for the first time in our lives. It was very impressive. It was very civilised and more people joined us on the way. Afterwards there were about 300 participants. Now we put our feet up and enjoy a cup of tea🫖
Klaus: I had sent the interview to my neighbourhood and Peter recommended that I apply to television or radio. Finally a good interview/reporter!
Did he really say 👍😅
You're probably wondering which video. Let us surprise you. Our short interview with Dr Mark Benecke on zoos, habitats and the Cologne mayoral election.
